UPS was founded in 1907 in the United States and originally started out as a messenger company and now is one of the World's largest package delivery and logistics providers servicing customers in more than 220 countries and territories worldwide.
Since UPS was founded it has constantly evolved, expanding its worldwide portfolio of services into Europe, Asia and South America. UPS continues to gain wider access through strategic acquisitions which strengthen its foot hold in the courier, logistics, global freight, financial and mail services.
Since 1999 UPS (United Parcel Service Inc) have made significant investments to broaden its network, In 1999 UPS acquired Challenge Air which made it the largest air cargo and express carrier in Latin America. In 2004 UPS purchased Menlo Worldwide Forwarding which added the capability for heavy air freight consignments while in 2005 the acquisition of Overnite expanded its road services in North America. UPS identified Asia as a growth target and acquired its joint venture business partner in China which gave it access to 23 cities that cover more 80% of China's international trade. Other recent acquisitions was the Lynx Express business in the UK, Poland's Stolica S.A and in 2012 UPS announced that it plans to purchase TNT Express for 5.16 billion euros ($6.8 billion).
With approximately 400,000 staff, 90,000 delivery vehicles, 229 UPS Aircraft, 298 Chartered Aircraft, UPS has an annual worldwide delivery volume of more than 4 billion packages and documents which generated more than $53.1 Billion in revenue in 2011.
In Australia UPS offer worldwide courier services through its UPS Worldwide Express and UPS Worldwide Saver products which service other 220 countries and territories.
